Comments Off on Belize’s Kanantik Reef & Jungle Resort Is a Breathtaking Eco-Hideaway

A breathtaking eco-hideaway on 300 jungle acres between Dangriga and Placencia in Belize is the Kanantik Reef & Jungle Resort in Dangriga.  Founded in 2002 by an Italian businessman, Kanantik, which means “to take care” in Mayan Mopan.

The resort is eco in every way, located four miles from the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which is nothing short of a jaguar preserve and a short boat ride from the world’s second-largest barrier reef. Imagine Mayan thatched-roof cabanas with wraparound decks, canopied beds, and wood floors.

The rooms are romantic and serene.

And, they offer various styles you can choose from and rates vary depending on features and so on.

Kanantik’s 25 luxurious private cabanas, salt-water pool and world-class restaurant are found on 1,300 acres of untouched jungle, home to a menagerie of wildlife and flora. With the jungle and mountains behind, Kanantik is a rare resort in that it also looks out over the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. No other resort in Belize offers this magical blend of jungle refuge and tropical beach. The stretch of beach will take you away into a world of tropical haven….a place you can lounge, swim, relax, read a book or order an exotic cocktail.

With the Cockscomb Basic Wildlife Sanctuary so nearby, you can also witness some of the regions most beautiful and rare tropical birds and animals, including jaguars. They lead bird excursions led by native guides who will take you through the jungle to the best bird-sighting spots. You can take the sunrise tour, the optimal bird-watching hour, and also learn about the area’s rich collection of flora and fauna. From the impressive heights of our Observation Towers, you can take in a 360-degree view of the jungle canopy and its topmost inhabitants, as well as the majestic Mayan Mountains. Down at our nearby lagoon, you’ll have the rare opportunity to watch crocodiles in their natural environment. Mayan ruins or lush jungle – you decide which one holds more mystery since you will have access to both.

XUNANTUNICH MAYAN RUINS

Historians will know that the Mayans disappeared suddenly, but left behind a collection of majestic ruins for you to explore. They offer an all day tour which takes you through the picturesque Hummingbird Highway, into the lush forest at the foot of the Mayan Mountains, and through the Belizean capital of Belmopan. Close to the Guatemalan border, you’ll be ferried across the Mopan River to Xunantunich, the Maiden Rock rising 125 feet with 25 temples and palaces perched along its natural limestone ridge. There you can take in panoramic views of the Cayo district and a glimpse of neighboring Guatemala before enjoying a Belizean lunch at the Clarissa Fall resort overlooking the river.

RIVER CANOEING

For a genuine jungle experience, they also offer a ride on the nearby Cabbage Haul Creek. You take a canoe along the tranquil river, making sure to point out the rich variety of manatees, iguanas, crocodiles, melodious birds and other wildlife that populate its shores. The trip ends at the Sapodillo Lagoon.

The restaurant features fresh seafood and organic produce grown on-site and makes its own breads, tortilla chips, and jams.

There are a variety of options from cabanas only: double or single occupancy at US $342.00 per night, all taxes and a full a la carte breakfast included to more deluxe options. The choice for Mayan royalty, or any discerning guest who wants the complete Kanantik luxury experience.
