Enter the beginning of Living Streets ‘Get walking during the games challenge‘. Throughout the Games, London’s transport is going to be slightly busier than usual.

Well that’s a lie, it’s going to be hell.

And while we’re happy that summer has finally arrived, more people on the tube + sunshine = more sweating than the Olympic athletes.

So now couldn’t be a more perfect time for you to slip on some comfy shoes, slap on some sun tan lotion and leave the oyster card at home. Walking is the coolest thing you can do this summer. In every sense.

Sign up to Living Street’s walking challenge, become an Urban Rambler and log the miles you walk during the Games. Then their clever calculator will tell you not only how many miles you’ve walked but also how many ice creams you’ve burnt off and how much carbon you’ve saved.

You might not be completing a triathlon but you’ll definitely feel fitter, healthier and happier at the end of it. Especially as you need to eat those ice creams before you can walk them off.

Living Streets is all about making our streets safer, better and happier. Whether it’s the street we live on, the street we work on or the streets we walk through to get to the pub. Campaigns like this one help raise awareness and help improve your general health and fitness with a little bit of gentle walking.

If you’re worried about finding your way then don’t panic, Living Streets have also provided a handy walking route planner from their friends Walkit to help you stay on the right track.

And if you don’t live in London then don’t worry, you can still tot up your miles and use an Ice Cream Calculator to work out how many Mr Whippys you’ve burnt off.

So let’s get eating! I mean…walking.

P.S. If you find walking to a beat helps you pound those pavements easier then we have just the thing. Walk 105 is a selection of songs that play at 105 beats per minute, the natural walking speed.
