Midsummer’s Day, June 21, marks the opening of Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, London’s most spectacular event for theatre, dance and street arts.

From June 21-29, wind-powered musical installations will fill Greenwich Park; ballerinas will pirouette along Canary Wharf; bungee artists will twist through the air at the National Maritime Museum.  These are a but a few of the 150-performance program, incorporating 30 international and national companies.  All performances are free and open to the general public.

“The Festival is committed to breaking new ground in outdoor performance…with a particular focus on the commissioning and development of outdoor work led by Deaf and disabled artists and artists from diverse backgrounds,” explains the festival’s Web site.

This year, the festival aims to recapture the spirit of Olympic London through what visitllondon.com calls “a rollercoaster” of events.
