Our good friends Electric Pedals have turned up at The Winter Festival at Southbank in London with bikes, a Christmas tree and great big festive dollop of enthusiasm.
Throughout December they will be stationed next to the Thames, getting people to jump on their energy producing bikes and pedal-power the Christmas lights on their huge tree.
Considering that an average display of 100 five-watt bulbs switched on for six hours a day over the festive period will consume 207 Kwh, the equivalent of 22.8 days of the average British household’s electricity consumption, then having a little pedal to power this wonderful display is nothing.
The display is free and open to everyone. There’s even a hand-powered pedal for anyone unable to ho-ho-hop on a bike.
