What’s better: Growing plants or Pedaling the Pedals? No need to choose; you can actually merge the two!

Bike gardens are exactly what they sound like. Gardens on a bike.

You can plant grasses in your wheels and herbs on your fenders using cheesecloth or old socks (providing you don’t inhibit any brakes or chains and wash the socks first if you want to make friends on the cycle paths).

You can attach an adorable mini planter to the frame, just for a little splash of colour and cuteness. These are made by the brilliant Colleen Jorden on Etsy.

You could even build a window box to sit in front of your handlebars for some more robust growing (perfect for that third love of mine: snacking).

And if your bike is broken beyond all repair, pay tribute to your rusty old friend by turning him into a beautiful trellis. Let climbers grow up the frame and watch as daisies poke their heads through the spokes. You can even mount your broken buddy on the fence and use him as an eye-catching planter.

It’s what your bike would have wanted.

Gotta love green creativity.
