While Petra is known as one of Jordan’s most important historical sites — with over 800 monuments thought to have been built by the Nabataeans as early as 7,000 to 6,500 BC — it’s also home to some worthwhile adventure activities. Hiking trails abound, while donkey rides and horse carriages are offered every two feet. In the Instagram picture shown above, I’m doing a cartwheel in an abandoned cave across from the iconic Monastery. At the top you can follow the signs to the “Best Viewpoint,” where you’ll have the chance to take in aerial views of the site as well as snap some interesting silhouette photos like the one shown above.
