Musicians from all over the world gather in Bolivia for the Bolivia International Jazz Festival that happpened this past week. Notable guests of honour have included Brazilian jazz legend Roberto Menescal – one of the founding fathers of Brazil’s national genre, Bossa Nova – who played the festival last year, and commented: “I’ve always heard about jazz from Argentina or Chile. I didn’t realize there was a jazz scene in Bolivia. I’m amazed.”

Jazz is a popular genre in Bolivia, and the country recently drew worldwide attention when a seven-year-old blind boy from there, Jose Andre Montano Baina, was revealed to be a stunning jazz prodigy. It’s in La Paz every year so mark your calendars for next September.
