This should be categorized as an almost-food festival! The Maine Potato Blossom Festival will be held July 13 through 21, 2013, in Fort Fairfield, Maine.
Why an almost-food festival? That’s because this one is timed to occur each year when the potato blossoms are in full bloom — not when they’re ready to harvest.
Centerpiece takes place on July 20: the Potato Cooking Contest.
Oh, sure: there also are all the accoutrements of a town festival, including a parade (always on the third Saturday in July), fireworks, river races, antique tractor pull, pet contest — plus something unique: mashed potato wrestling.
If you’re more into Maine lobster, well, there’ll be that option as well. On July 13, 14, 19 and 20, a Lobster and Clam Bake at $43.50 per person will be served at Canterbury Royale, 182 Sam Everett Road, Fort Fairfield, Maine.
