The second annual Golden Onion professional cooking competition will be held April 14, 2013, as the official precursor to the 36th Annual Vidalia Onion Festival.
The fest is set for April 18 through 21, 2013, in (of course) Vidalia, Georgia.
Each spring, Vidalia anticipates the harvest of Georgia’s Official State Vegetable, the internationally known Vidalia Sweet Onion. Of course, there’s a baseball tournament and a festival queen and a parade — but the star of the show is the Vidalia onion: there’s a Vidalia onion oecipe contest, public tasting and “culinary extravaganza” in addition to the cookoff.
