Train travel in China is always exciting but Chinese high speed train is even more scintillating! With an influx of new routes, super clean, and might fast trains, the age of smoky, shaking Chinese carriages are fading out. In the last 18 months On my first high speed train in China, I took a rare route, the Shenzhen North to Shaoguan route, which was my first experience of the new high speed trains in China. The trip presented an opportunity to see the mountains and rock formations at Danxiashan.
How to book your train in China
Don’t book anything in advance. Since…
Read more...

The menus are being created by 12 of what are considered the best restaurants in Finland: Muru, Demo, Juuri, Aito, Bistro O mat, C, Smör and Toscanini (all of which participated last year) plus newcomers Olo, Luomo, Ask and Gaijin.
The menus that are being created especially for the event are inspired by organic and local food, as well as by domestic wild food. Also, the cutlery will be compostable, and each…
Read more...

Electronic musician Steve Aoki releases his new music video, showing in an eerie and surreal way what life might be like when we get to choose whether we want to live forever….or not. Ray Kurzweil is part of the video where he asserts that the meeting of minds and machines are part of our not so distant future.

At a time when technology and biology walk down the aisle and exchange vows, life will never be the same as we now know it. This – our future reality – may not be one our brains can wrap around today, but it is a notion that the likes of Futurists and Singularians attest is coming whether we…
Read more...

A typical farm from that time consisted of a threshing barn/dwelling house, storehouses, a sauna, stables for animals, and a summer kitchen. Very often the farm also had a smithy. There were separate storehouses for grain, meat, fish and clothing and of course the number of storehouses one had depended on the wealth and size…
Read more...

It’s 3:42 a.m.
The bombs are bursting in air, along with firecrackers and rockets, and music is playing over a loud speaker, while a man yells into a microphone in Spanish.
I nudge my husband. “Are you awake?”

“Yes,” he grumbles.
We get up to embark upon a day of celebration of motherhood. Incomprehensibly, how they celebrate in Guatemala is by waking up mother’s with fireworks and blaring music, before dawn begins to crack. How this honor mothers, I do not know…

The music and fireworks continue until I finally pull myself out of bed at 5:45 a.m. to study. Greg has already been up for almost two hours.

As a girl who enjoys eating out entirely too much, I made a commitment during New York City’s warmer weather months to frequent the farmers’ markets to see what this whole eat fresh, eat local mumbo-jumbo is all about.

Starting simple, I chose to make an abbreviated version of this Quinoa Salad, picking up practically everything I needed at the Union Square Market. And what wasn’t there, well, didn’t make it into the salad because I didn’t have the patience to stand in line at Whole Foods.

I’m a bit of snob when it comes to travel photography. Not because I believe my travel photography is objectively better than anyone else’s, mind you, but because I believe that travel photographers should always prioritize detail, nuance and quality in the images they capture.
Enter the iPhone. On the surface, it’s a travel photographer’s dream – small, lightweight and point-and-shoot. Sure, it’s low quality, but it’s got a bevy of filters, editors and other features that kind manipulate its photos into looking like they’ve been professionally shot. Well, kind of professional.
And that’s the thing about the iPhone when…
Read more...

Trakai-based Kybynlar in Lithuania, isn’t an ordinary eatery. Run by a Karaim family, they serve tasty Kibinas, in a Turkish like style. In the establishment along a not so busy road in small town Lithuania, there is language on the wall that apparently only 535 people speak. According to the ethnostatistical data collected in 1997, there were only 257 Karaims living in Lithuania at the time.
