At the MobileLoco event in San Francisco last week, I had a demo of DigitalGlobe, who apparently did a deal with MapBox on the same day. Mapbox, which is a provider of open source solutions for designing and publishing maps via the cloud, chose DigitalGlobe as their commercial and earth imagery provider.
Users can now incorporate DigitalGlobe’s high-resolution satellite imagery as their maps’ base layer for added quality and rich detail. The result can be quite beautiful, especially compared to the bland offerings today.
