Long Live Clothing Swaps

Comments Off on Long Live Clothing Swaps

A local who throws organized clothing swaps in Marin (I’ve been once or twice) was previewed on the Today Show this week.

I’ve been throwing and attending clothing swaps for years and most of them are less structured and organized than what they are doing. People pay to attend this event, and some women show up with items for sale which are presented on tables around the room.

In the middle of the room, the clothes are thrown, either on the floor or in bags. People show up, rummage through clothes, take a few items and leave. It’s a great idea – some of the left over clothes end up going to a Women’s Shelter.

I’ve thrown a few since living in the Bay Area, and they’re much more social in nature, but obviously with a different goal. Women show up not just to exchange clothes, but also to share stories, connect with other women, share fabulous food and wine and hang out.

We’ll often parade around in clothing we’d never wear, and throw things together that really don’t mesh just for the hell of it. Long live clothing swaps.
